# Notice, Consent, and Reference of a Dispositive Motion to a Magistrate Judge (AO 85A) This form is used when both sides in a federal lawsuit agree to have a magistrate judge (a lower-level judge) make a final decision on an important motion that could end the case, rather than having the main judge do it. Both the person filing the motion and the other side must sign this form to show they consent to the magistrate judge handling the case.
